Mom's Bread Pudding

This is a very special desert which Mom always made just for Jeff, it's his all time favorite. One because it's delicious but I think more importantly, it's because Mom made it just for him.  But there's a special true story that goes along with this recipe, I'd like to share it with you all.

It's funny what goes through your head during times of crises.  It was the day after Mom died, Jeff and I were with Dad at his house when Jeff asked me if I had the pudding recipe. Unfortunately I never asked or watched Mom make it, it would be lost forever.  No sooner did that flash through my mind, Dad walked into the kitchen with all sorts of papers in his hands, a small piece of pink paper fell to the floor.  I picked it up and tears came to both Jeff and my eyes.  It was the Pudding recipe!  Now some might call it a coincidence, personally I don't believe it.  Instead I truly believe it was a wonderful gift from Mom.

This is the simplest of recipes, but I know try as I might....it just won't be the same.

Soak: 1 loaf of raisin bread in 1 qt of milk.

Mix:  4 eggs, 2 cups sugar, 2 teaspoons vanilla, add to soaked bread.

place in baking dish, 350 degrees, 1 to 11/2 hours.

That's it.  Simple as they come.  But very, very good...Just ask Jeff.
